Program Description / Purpose: Seventh Generation Fund’s approach to Native community revitalization is firmly based on the premise that Native peoples know and understand the issues of their tribal communities. SGF recognizes that accessing financial and technical support, capacity building opportunities, and other useful resources is often critical to long-term planning, organizational development and project success. Equipped with skills, necessary support and other resources, SGF believes that Indigenous communities and grassroots leaders can envision, develop and implement culturally-meaningful and ecologically-sound remedies to solve the many challenges they face.

Program Requirements / Restrictions: SGF will NOT fund the following:

Non-Native organizations,
Political campaigns or direct lobbying,
Scholarships, fellowships or grants to individuals,
Annual fundraisers,
Religious organizations engaged in proselytizing or missionary activities,
Casinos

Selection Priorities / Criteria: The project must be focused in the Native Community with its purpose, design, and implementation strategy originating from the indigenous peoples/communities it serves. Project promotes and enhances the language, culture, traditional institutions, values and way of life of its constituents. Project demonstrates capacity and intent to become self-reliant and commits to the development of training and technical assistance strategies to increase self-reliance. Project must not promote or perpetuate racism, sexism, oppression nor exploitation of other humans or the natural environment.
